Tech FAQs
We are an independent Jura repair specialist. We have created this TECH FAQs PAGE in order to assist customers with the most common issues we see in Jura coffee machines. This page is created to help our customers care for their Jura coffee machines and avoid unnecessary trips into the shop. Thank you for visiting!
FIRST a word to our DIY friends. Although we have a parts shop for our advanced DIY customers, we don't generally recommend the general public disassemble machines to make internal repairs. Repair customers come to us often with a machine where they have attempted a repair but given up. In the case of a rebuild, it's best left to the professionals. However, sometimes a single part may be needed to extend the life of your machine between major rebuilds. Please see our Parts Shop for our limited selection of parts.
For simple fixes you can do for common problems without disassembling your machine, read on!
1. COFFEE WON'T COME OUT/FILL SYSTEM/OPEN TAP/MACHINE IS PLUGGED.
This is by far the most common problem we hear about post-refurbishment. The machine senses a loss of water flow and prompts you to fill the system by opening the water tap.
***If you have recently had your machine refurbished by us, please read the following: As we always install a fresh, sharp grinder burr set with our machines which produce very finely milled coffee, we often receive calls from customers who have chosen too coarse of a grind setting for the bean they are using, causing the machine to plug. Post-Refurbishment, please follow the recommendations of the manufacturer and consult our QUICK START guide to set your grinder to an appropriate setting for the sort of bean you use. Most coffee beans are medium to dark roasted and need a medium to coarse setting. NEVER use oily beans-they will crud up your freshly cleaned grinder and they plug the machine on most settings except the coarsest setting! Light roast may be used on the finest setting (IF it is truly is a light roast-many aren't). Medium in the middle and dark (non-oily) beans may be run on the coarsest setting. This is what the manufacturer recommends and we think that works best!
Keep in mind that plugging usually happens when the grind is set too fine. We recommend moving the grinder adjustment 1 step at a time, then run a few cups to try it out before moving it again. If you have plugged your machine, don't worry! This just means you're a few clicks of the adjustment knob too fine. Back it off to a coarser setting. We encourage our customers to play with the adjustment to dial in the grinder for the best taste and performance. Finer=more pressure, Coarser=less pressure. Please read on!
2. IF IT'S STILL PLUGGED, PERFORM A "MICROSCREEN CLEANING".
***If your machine is still plugged after turning the grinder adjustment wheel to the coarsest setting and trying to make a couple coffees, then you must perform a MICRO SCREEN CLEANING. Sometimes coffee is ground up so finely that it becomes lodged in the micro screen of the brew head and forms an obstruction which won't allow coffee through. In this case, you simply have to manually clean the brew head up inside the cavity of the machine to remove the obstruction. Remove the drawer, tray, box, etc and reach up inside the machine. Feel around and find the brew head with the metal mesh screen. There is a Phillips screw in the middle. Once you've found it with your hand, simply use a damp cloth to wipe away all the crud. That's it! Try to make a coffee after you've removed the obstruction. You should notice an immediate difference. Here is a photo to help you find it:
